For years science communicators have successfully bridged the gap between research-based knowledge and public curiosity. They have provided documentaries on the cosmos, YouTube videos breaking down climate change, and Instagram reels on physical and mental health. In turn, these researchers have transformed public access to knowledge once made only accessible to those within academia. Now, it’s time social science and humanities scholars follow suit.

Here at Educated Social, we believe that educators and researchers have an ethical responsibility to teach critical thinking skills, provide insights into greater understandings of the past and present, and communicate beyond the page — leaving the old guard of the ivory tower. And these teachings cannot persist in the classroom while the world turns against humanities knowledge and the act of intellectual inquiry.

About me

Meet your coach, Kaelyn

Historian, Content Creator, and Found of Accepted Society (and now Educated Social), I have worked with some of the leading educational creators in the world, including Ali Abdaal, to develop accessible social media content as well as profitable paid communities, courses, and services. Now, with over 6 years of experience under my belt, I want to create the bridge between academics and the public by teaching you the marketing tools and social media strategies to reach an audience at scale and share you knowledge in such a way that people will listen.

My story

2019 - The Start of @theredheadacademic

As a former professional athlete turned community college student who never imagined getting into a decent university, let alone UCLA, I knew I had to share what I had learned and encourage other non-traditional students. So I started a YouTube channel where I began making educational videos about navigating higher education as a non-traditional student and documenting my journey through a masters at Oxford and getting into Yale for my PhD.
2020: Starting a PhD during a Global Pandemic

My scholarly career kicked off during one of the COVID pandemic and without friends, family, or a cohort to connect with, I turned to social media to share my experience, my research as it developed, and the resources and insights I gained along the way. I also began running live study sessions for members in my growing online community to join (this became the basis of Accepted Society).
2021: Started my first business

As a result of producing content on social media, there were hundreds of students seeking out 1:1 support on their admissions applications, grants, and academic journeys which led to the founding of Accepted Consulting. This graduate & transfer admissions business ended up working with 80+ clients that year (all while growing a team, finishing the coursework for my PhD, and continuing to post weekly YouTube Videos)
2022: Sharing the Process

As I began archival research in the summer of 2022, I started sharing more of the process of how PhD students and, more specifically, historians conduct research. I shared educational videos like “How to Read and Take Notes Like a PhD Student” and “A Day in the Archive”. This was the most successful year on my Youtube channel and it signaled to me just how important humanities education was for bringing more people into a place of curiosity rather than skepticism when witnessing academics at work.
2023: Moved to London and Started the Dissertation Diaries

2023 was the year of big changes: advancing to candidacy, moving to London, beginning dissertation research, and shutting down Accepted Consulting. It was a year of reinvention and also reassessing the direction of my brand, business, and life in general.
2024: Creating a Bigger Impact with Accepted Society

Following a period of uncertainty in 2023, I determined that Accepted Society was the future I wanted to focus on building. I brought on my business partner, Cait, and focused on building an intellectual community online which supported non-traditional scholars and life-long learners alike.
2025 - The Year Everything Fell Into Place

2025 marked that beautiful settling in period where the years of research, content production, and building businesses fell into place. My dissertation productivity accelerated, as did the growth of Accepted Sociey (from 200 members to 892 members in 18 months!). But something was missing.
As I looked at the state of higher education and public humanities knowledge, I felt there was so much left to do. The idea to start Educated Social was born.
2026 - Making Intellectual Inquiry Accessible

As we head into 2026, I hope to create a movement, alongside other science, humanities, and social science scholars, of public intellectuals online. My mission is to provide the marketing and entrepreneurial tools I have learned as a business owner and content creator and connecting it to the scholarship we all have worked so hard to preserve.
